@khulick Is it true that they aren't counting the amount of energy used to power the laser in the energy in -> energy out measurement? Wouldn't that change things?

@wrongthyme it’s true that they only counted the energy delivered to the target - excess energy didn’t count. That’s part of the reason why we’re not at all close to a working fusion power plant! Lot of engineering still required to get there…

@khulick So that's still a surmountable problem?

@wrongthyme hopefully! There are two main approaches to fusion power - this was inertial. The other approach- magnetic confinement- is arguably closer to becoming a power plant, even though it hasn’t yet demonstrated ignition.
